Study Programs - Department of Mathematical Engineering

Mission of the Department of Mathematical Engineering

The first cycle study course "Bachelor in Mathematical Engineering", which lasts 3 (three) academic years, aims to train professional mathematicians who are able to cope with the study of complex systems, broad knowledge of modern methodologies of Applied Mathematics, analysis and solution of concrete problems.

The course is integrated with existing engineering courses. The student acquires "physical" knowledge of problems through a range of subjects ranging from Physics to Chemistry, from Informatics to Economics.

Some basic engineering courses equip the student with the typical knowledge of an engineer and with the technological sense and judgment to deal with complex problems.

The student is also trained in the use of computer technology and mathematical software.
Knowledgeand competencies of students at the end of the curriculum

This course is a relatively new discipline, based on the engineering worldview and a broad spectrum of fundamental and modern knowledge, which at the end of the study program equips the future engineer with knowledge of:

  1. Modern methodologies of Applied Mathematics and enables one to understand the interplay between various technical and scientific knowledge.
  2. The methodologies offered by the different sectors of Mathematics in its engineering applications
  3. The use of computer technology and various mathematical software
  4. To be able to enter the labor market, the civil service, and all second cycle programs.
  5. The programs of this cycle are realized with 180 ECTS credits and their normal duration is three years. After fulfilling the curricular requirements of the first cycle study program, the academic title “Bachelor's Degree” is obtained, equivalent to the academic title of Bachelor of the Bologna system.
